Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) hosted Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on May 3. After being invited to bat first, the home side posted a formidable total of 213/5. Jacob Bethell and Virat Kohli scored fluent half-centuries at the top of the order before the middle-order crumbled. However, Romario Shepherd's unbeaten 14-ball 53 single-handedly took the hosts beyond the 200-run mark. CSK, however, were not going down without a fight. The 17-year-old Ayush Mhatre showcased his immense talent, smashing the RCB bowlers to all corners of the park. Ravindra Jadeja also played a remarkable knock of 77 not out off 45 balls. However, he couldn't take his team over the line.

CSK needed 43 runs in the last four overs with eight wickets to spare and two set batters at the crease. Dew was also evident on the ground. However, Ngidi turned the game on its head by picking up the wickets of Mhatre and Dewald Brevis on consecutive deliveries. 15 runs were needed in the last over with MS Dhoni on strike. Yash Dayal held his nerves and dismissed the CSK skipper off his third ball. The left-arm seamer conceded a six off a no-ball as Shivam Dube brought the five-time champions back in the game. However, Dayal bowled three brilliant deliveries in the end as RCB restricted their opponents to 211/5.
