As former India captain, MS Dhoni turns 40, fans, followers, and Twitter have been flooded to wish one of the most charismatic and enigmatic players by making all sorts of videos, posting old match clips, and showing the vintage batting of Dhoni in the Indian jersey as well in Chennai Super Kings (CSK) jersey. Although he announced his retirement from international cricket, he still is the skipper for CSK in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Before he went onto become one of the greatest captains in the world, he burst onto the scene in 2004 as a hard-hitting batter as evident by his two bludgeoning knocks of an unbeaten 183 and 148 against Sri Lanka and Pakistan respectively. Those two innings firmly put him into the bracket of one of the biggest hitters going around in the cricketing world during the late 2000s. But with the pressure of captaincy and with even more responsibility of guiding the young players, Dhoni turned to a finisher and his hitting prowess waned.

But till the time he was a basher, he gave nightmares to the opposition bowlers by dispatching the ball to all parts of the ground. He finished his career with 359 international sixes and currently stands fifth in the list of leading six-hitters. Australian team too faced the wrath of the Dhoni onslaught, when he left the bowlers hapless in the limited-overs format on more than one occasion.

Cricket Australia (CA) reminded Dhoni fans and his followers of his brilliant ball-striking by posting a video of his sixes hit in Australia.

MS Dhoni- India’s biggest six-hitter

He is only behind only India opener Rohit Sharma when it comes to hitting sixes in the ODI format. This in itself is staggering, considering he used to come in at number five or six for India.

Although was always tipped to be more suitable in the shorter formats, he still managed to hit 78 sixes in Test cricket too. Often he has finished the matches for India by hitting sixes. Who can forget his epic assault on Clint McKay in the 2012 CB series, or the six he hit to win the ICC Cricket World Cup in 2011 of Nuwan Kulasekara. It’s a pretty good time to watch those on his 40th birthday.
