'Cricket mat sikha baap ko' - Fans lose their cool after KRK urges MS Dhoni to retire

Continuing their poor run in the on-going IPL 2020, MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings suffered their third defeat of the tournament after they failed to hunt down 165 against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Friday. CSK, the most consistent side in the history of the IPL, suffered its third loss in succession for the first time since the 2014 season.

CSK were jolted with early blows as they lost their first three wickets in the Powerplay itself. Kedar Jadhav was also dismissed in the ninth over, which left CSK reeling at 42/4. After the top-order batting debacle, skipper Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja tried to save CSK’s sinking ship by weaving singles and doubles and stitching a vital 72-run stand.

MS Dhoni stitched unbeaten 47 and stayed till the end

But the duo eventually succumbed to the soaring asking rate and despite Dhoni’s valiant effort at the end, Chennai handed over a 7-run victory to David Warner’s SRH. Due to the heat and humidity, a fatigued Dhoni was gasping for breath in the last over. He stayed at the crease until the end but it wasn’t enough to steer CSK past the finishing line.

Soon after the match ended, Twitter was flooded with messages for Dhoni. While some lauded the CSK skipper for his resilience, some trolled him by pointing out his age. Kamaal Rashid Khan, known for his controversial statements, lambasted Dhoni and urged the veteran to retire respectfully.

“Brother MS Dhoni, no one becomes younger by dying his hair black. You run out of breath while taking two runs, which happens with everyone in old age. But who has told you to make a mockery of yourself by playing in old age? I was your fan once and I don’t like seeing you in this condition. Retire respectfully,” tweeted KRK in Hindi.

Following his disrespectful tweet, KRK was bashed from all corners by ardent Dhoni fans. The CSK skipper, who yesterday also became the most-capped IPL player, was defended by many fans. Many fans hurled abuses while some reminded KRK of Dhoni’s staggering achievements in the sport. A few also urged KRK to go and deliver on the field rather than commenting while sitting at home.
