KL Rahul showed exemplary control and patience to register his fourth Test century in England and second at Lord's on Day 3 of the third Test in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. The Karnataka batter had to wait on 98 as Rishabh Pant's catastrophic run out was the last action before the Lunch break. However, the wait for 40-odd minutes wasn't going to break Rahul's concentration.

Off the fourth ball in the 67th over of India's innings, Rahul prodded forward and knocked a good length delivery from Jofra Archer wide of mid-off and scampered through for a quick single to bring up his century. He got to the magical three-figure mark off 176 deliveries.

Since 2000, only Graeme Smith has more hundreds by a visiting opener in England (five) than Rahul. The Indian opener removed his helmet, raised both arms, and soaked in the applause from the spectators and his teammates. He hit 13 boundaries during his knock, which oozed calmness and class.

India would have wanted Rahul to continue and convert his century into a bigger knock. However, Shoaib Bashir ended his stay at the crease in the following over. Rahul got lured into playing a loose push through the cover region, but there wasn't much turn on offer for the off-spinner and the edge carried through to Harry Brook at first slip. The 33-year-old batter was devastated as he knew he had to carry on, with India still being quite a few runs away from England's first-innings score. He reluctantly walked off the field to a rousing reception from the crowd and his teammates.

Irrespective of his dismissal right after reaching the landmark, Rahul's innings will be remembered for a very long time because of the amount of control he had while batting against the England bowlers.

Here's a look at how the cricket fraternity reacted to his knock on social media:

Finally this very likeable & class cricketer comes of age. Carries his form from one Test to the other. 2 hundreds now in 3 Tests! Pity about the immediate dismissal after. But overall so far this series🙇🙇🙇 KL! #KLRahul
