Harbhajan recalls his slapgate incident with Sreesanth amid latter's ongoing row with Gambhir

Manipal Tigers were crowned champions of the Legends League Cricket 2023 as they beat Urbanrisers Hyderabad in the final of the tournament by five wickets on Saturday, December 09 at Lalabhai Contractor Stadium, Surat. Apart from the riveting cricketing action in the tournament, an on-field altercation between Gautam Gambhir and S Sreesanth grabbed headlines during the Eliminator game of the cricketing event.

Sreesanth alleged that the former India opener called him a ‘fixer’ which led to his anger outburst on the field. Reacting to the incident, former India spinner Harbhajan Singh who was also captaining Manipal Tigers, used a famous dialogue from actor Shahrukh Khan’s movie 'Dilwale Duhaniya Le Jayenge' to call it a trivial matter.

"Bade baad shehro mein chhoti chhoti baatein hoti rehti hain(in big cities, small things keep happening)," Harbhajan was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.

Further being asked about his infamous slapgate incident during IPL 2008 with Sreesanth, Harbhajan asked to not bring that up and accepted that it was his fault.

"That is an incident of the past. Let's not bring that up. What happened then was not right, and I don't have any hesitation in saying that the fault was mine. I don't know what happened this time (between Sreesanth and Gambhir). LLC has offered good cricket this year, and it would be better to stick to that only," he added.

Sreesanth launched scathing attack on Gambhir via Instagram

Notably, after the on-field incident, Sreesanth continued to attack Gambhir on his Instagram live and even posted a video referring to him as ‘Mr Fighter’. On the other hand, Gambhir remained silent about it and posted a photograph of him smiling with a caption, “Smile when the world is all about attention!”

Meanwhile, following the controversial incident LLC has reportedly issued a legal notice to Sreesanth for violating the code of conduct of the tournament. The former India fast bowler breached his contract during the tournament and the organisers of the league will only talk to him once he removes all the videos criticising Gambhir as it is within the purview of the league.
