Harsha Bhogle has opened up on the non-striker run-out instance involving Lucknow Super Giants spinner Digvesh Singh Rathi and Royal Challenger Bengaluru's stand-in skipper Jitesh Sharma in Match 70 of IPL 2025 at Lucknow's BRSABV Ekana Cricket Stadium.
Bhogle claimed that he does not have a problem with the umpire turning down the dismissal if the batter is found inside the crease at the time of bowler's release, however, he expressed disappointment on instances where players withdraw the appeal in the name of the 'spirit of the game'.
"I have no problem with the umpire turning down the appeal if he thinks the non-striker was inside the crease when the bowler's arm had crossed the point where he is expected to release the ball. I am disappointed when the spirit of the game is invoked. You play by the laws," Bhogle wrote on X.

What happened between Digvesh Rathi and Jitesh Sharma?
Notably, Jitesh was found well outside the crease at the time Digvesh went for the run-out attempt. The on-field umpire referred the decision to the third-umpire, who recognised that Jitesh was dismissed rightfully. However, LSG skipper withdrew the appeal to reprieve the RCB batter. Had Pant not decided to take the appeal back, Jitesh would have been declared out. Notably, the batter had got a life in the same over earlier when he was caught inside the circle only for the ball to be called a back-foot no ball.
