In order to win their fourth match of the ongoing IPL 2023 season, Mumbai Indians needed to score 17 runs in the final over. Thus, Rajasthan Royals very much had the upper hand until that point. However, with three back-to-back sixes in the first three deliveries of the 20th over, Tim David completely changed the complexion of the game and pulled off a sensational victory at the iconic Wankhede Stadium.
Following this, skipper Rohit Sharma was spotted thrilled in the dugout while Tim and Tilak Varma jumped in joy. Meanwhile, while talking about his incredible knock of 45* runs off 14 deliveries, the Australia international mentioned that he always wanted to finish off a game like that. Hence, he’s delighted to finally do it.
Furthermore, the 27-year-old also mentioned that MI batting coach Kieron Pollard played a massive part in his training. Additionally, he stated that the season hasn’t been easy for him but he’s happy to get the job done against Rajasthan. Moreover, he admitted that hitting big maximums is never easy and a batter needs momentum going their way to pull it off.
“I have been hungry to have a finish like that, so it feels amazing. The team has been excited and the boys have been putting in big performances and I have been waiting for my chance. Pleased that I took it.
“Hitting sixes doesn’t come easily, and it doesn’t feel like it has come easy this year. When you’re getting that momentum, you just have to run with it. I have been putting in some hard work in the training over the last two weeks. I’m grateful for the support from the support staff. Obviously, Polly (Kieron Pollard) is a big part of it. I’m just trying to relax and enjoy the game,” Tim David was quoted as saying by Mumbai Indians.
Mumbai Indians trump Rajasthan Royals in a thriller at Wankhede in Mumbai
Notably, chasing 213 runs, Mumbai lost the wicket of Rohit Sharma in the second over of the game itself while Ishan Kishan managed to score only 28 runs off 23 deliveries. Post that, Cameron Green (44 runs off 26 deliveries) and Suryakumar Yadav (55 runs off 29 deliveries) played some brilliant cricket to bail the five-time champions out of a difficult situation. Later, with the help of Varma and Tim, Mumbai managed to win the game by six wickets and move to number seven in the IPL Points Table.
It is worth mentioning that Yashasvi Jaiswal played a memorable century knock with some blazing hits to guide RR to a mammoth total almost single-handedly. His scintillating knock (124 runs off 62 balls) consisted of 16 fours and eight sixes, respectively. However, Tim David's batting heroics overshadowed his valiant effort. But David did not shy away from appreciating Jaiswal by saying that he must have enjoyed this knock on his home ground being a Mumbaikar.
