I’m surprised by Rishabh Pant making the same mistake again and again: Kobus Olivier

Team India registered a massive win over Zimbabwe in their final outing in the Super 12 stage of the ICC T20 World Cup 2022. Thanks to sublime knocks by KL Rahul and Suryakumar Yadav, the side put up a massive total of 186/5 in their stipulated 20 overs.

Soon after, the Indian bowling unit took over and got the job done for the side as the African nation were all out for just 115 runs. While the players are slowly picking form, Rishabh Pant who played his first full outing wasn’t able to get vital runs for the side. Former South Africa international Kobus Olivier was left unimpressed by the young lad and stated that he must have given himself time before picking on bowlers.

“I find it a bit surprising for a player of his talent to keep making the same mistakes again and again. Especially today, I mean he had time to play himself in it and he did not have to go from the word ‘go’. I would have thought to give himself a few balls before going at Sean Williams. Williams only bowled two overs if I am correct, and all Pant really had to do was to wait for the pacers to come back,” said Kobus on BatBricks7 presents Run Ki Runneeti show on CricTracker.

As India lock horns with England in the semi-finals of the marquee event, Kobus further added that Pant will need to get back to the drawing board to understand his ‘gameplan’.

“We have seen what he does and Pant could have probably be hoping to the same against pace with the ball coming onto the bat. So, I don’t think he played a very clever innings. There was no need for that and kick yourself in, instead just wait for the pacers as that is his game. He will probably have a look at his gameplan before the next game,” added Kobus on the same show.
