The Punjab Kings made the headlines in the IPL 2023 auction when they broke the bank for the services of English all-rounder Sam Curran. The Punjab-based franchise has failed to qualify for the knockout stages of the tournament in each of the last eight seasons. They will kick start their season with a game against two-time champions Kolkata Knight Riders in Mohali on April 1.

Although the Punjab Kings missed out on the playoffs spot by a whisker, they had a mixed season in IPL 2022, failing to stitch together back-to-back victories for the entirety of the campaign. However, they will be buoyed by the performance of the explosive Liam Livingstone, who took the tournament by storm with his aggressive approach at the crease.

Punjab Kings Complete Schedule for IPL 2023:

The Punjab-based franchise went all out in the mini auction last year, resigning their former player Sam Curran for a record-breaking INR 18.50 crore, making him the most expensive player in the competition's history. They also acquired Zimbabwe's Sikandar Raza for a bargain price of INR 50.00 lakh after impressing fans with his all round abilities in the T20 World Cup in Australia. The core of the team remains the same with Kagiso Rabada leading the line with the ball for the Punjab Kings.

Punjab Kings will be hoping that a change in management will also bring a change of luck in the competition as they appointed Trevor Bayliss as the head coach of the side, replacing former Indian skipper Anil Kumble at the helm. They also axed Mayank Agarwal from captaincy duties, naming veteran Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan as the new skipper ahead of the 16th edition of the tournament. Agarwal, who was released from the squad, was signed by Sunrisers Hyderabad in the auction.
