The 56th game of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 featured a clash between the two-time champions Kolkata Knight Riders and the Sanju Samson-led Rajasthan Royals at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Thursday, May 11.

After Kolkata had posted a mere 149 runs on the board in the first innings, Rajasthan were quick to chase the target down. It was thanks to the explosive knock of Indian youngster Yashasvi Jaiswal that the inaugural champions managed to chase the target down with 41 balls to spare.

Jaiswal amassed 98* runs in 47 deliveries and played a knock for the ages. However, as talks of his brilliance took over social media, one of the records that the 21-year-old clinched in the clash against Kolkata went unnoticed. In the very first over of the run chase, Jaiswal hit skipper Nitish Rana for a whopping 26 runs.

The left-handed batter smashed the first two balls of the first over for sixes, which saw him become only the second batter in IPL history to do so after Virat Kohli. Kohli had hit two back-to-back sixes off the first two balls against Rajasthan Royals in the 2019 IPL.

Rajasthan Royals take on Royal Challengers Bangalore on May 14

After winning their clash against Kolkata in dominant fashion, Rajasthan Royals made the jump from fifth place to third on the IPL points table. They currently have 12 points in 12 matches, and after their recent win, they would look to make an even stronger case for qualification to the knockout stages of the competition.

In their next game, Rajasthan go up against the Faf du Plessis-led Royal Challengers Bangalore in the 60th game of the tournament at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Sunday, May 14. Bangalore would be coming into the game after back-to-back defeats against Delhi Capitals and Mumbai Indians. Rajasthan would aim to continue their winning momentum, register their seventh win of the IPL 2023, and solidify their spot in the knockout stages.
