Yashasvi Jaiswal is having a great season in the ongoing IPL 2023 as he has shattered several records playing for Rajasthan Royals in the ongoing edition. The 21-year-old continued his sensational form scoring a brilliant 36-ball 50 against Punjab Kings on Friday, May 19 at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium, Dharamsala.

During his knock, the opening batter added another feather to his cap as he recorded the most runs scored by an uncapped batter in a single edition of the IPL. In the ongoing season, Jaiswal is in the race for the IPL 2023 Orange Cap as he's the second-highest run-scorer so far. The southpaw has 625 runs to his name at an average of 48.07 and a strike rate of 163.61. The Uttar Pradesh-born batter has five fifties and a hundred to his name with a best score of 124.

Jaiswal broke Shaun Marsh’s 15-year-old record of 616 runs in 11 innings scored during IPL 2008 before the latter made his debut for Australia. Jaiswal also recorded the fastest fifty in the history of IPL reaching the landmark in just 13 balls against KKR in the ongoing season.

Coming back to the PBKS vs RR clash, both teams desperately needed a win to stay alive in the playoffs race and also had to improve their net run rate. After being put into bat first, Punjab got off to a miserable start as they were 50/4 after 6.3 overs.

Contributions from Sam Curran (49* off 31), Jitesh Sharma (44 off 28), and Shahrukh Khan (41* off 23) helped Punjab reach 187/5 in the first innings. Navdeep Saini was the pick of the bowlers for Rajasthan with figures of 3/40 in 4 overs.

In reply, Rajasthan lost Jos Buttler for a duck, following which Devdutt Padikkal (51 off 30) and Jaiswal (50 off 36) added 73 runs for the second wicket to stabilize the innings. After Padikkal’s wicket in the tenth over, captain Sanju Samson also departed cheaply after scoring just 2 off 3 balls.

Following his dismissal, Shimron Hetmyer also played a classy knock of 46 off 28 balls leaving RR on the brink of victory with nine needed off the last over. In the end, cameos from Riyan Parag (20 off 12) and Dhruv Jurel (10* off 4) helped RR chase down the target in 19.4 overs and helped them stay alive in the competition.
