The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has taken the decision to suspend the Indian Premier League 2025 season midway. The decision comes amid security tensions and war-like situation in the country with Pakistani forces, which came to the fore after the Indian Army executed the Operation Sindoor. The Australian players, who were a part of the league, will be returning to the homeland tomorrow.

Earlier in the day, IPL chairman Arun Singh Dhumal had stated that the league will go as planned, but in a latest development that has emerged owing to which, the tournament shall now stand suspended. Further details on the resumption are awaited, but it is highly unlikely that the tournament will resume anytime soon owing to the ongoing war-like crisis between India and Pakistan. A suspension for an indefinite period is all that can be said right now.

The franchises and other stakeholders involved in the league have been notified by the BCCI to halt their season activities.

For the unversed, the match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals at Dharamshala was abandoned mid-way following a technical shortcoming due to floodlights failure at the HPCA Stadium. Soon after the news, a blackout was announced in the region by the law enforcement authorities to avoid any public damage. The players, match officials, and the fans in attendance at the ground were asked to evacuate as well as the match could not proceed further.

On Friday morning, Arun Singh Dhumal had told that the tournament will proceed as planned, but the development happened exactly the opposite by the time it was noon. The board has already declared arranging sufficient logistical assistance to the cricketers and others involved so they can move safely and negate any security threats.

Will PBKS vs DC be a re-match?

It is noteworthy to mention that despite the Match 58 ending in a No Result affair, the points were not shared between the teams. In such case, there is a high possibility that the game will start afresh when or if the tournament resume, however, nothing can be confirmed officially right now. In case of rain abandonments of previous clashes, the points were shared, but the PBKS vs DC fixture did not see the sides sharing a point, and it has not been counted in the total games played by both the teams.

As a result, it is safe to assume that the IPL 2025 Points Table is last updated as of Match 57, which saw the Chennai Super Kings beat Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens on Wednesday.
