Ravichandran Ashwin and Sanju Samson have acknowledged how awestruck they were when they first saw Vaibhav Suryavanshi batting during his maiden Indian Premier League season. Suryavanshi lit up IPL 2025 with a strike rate of 206.55 in the seven matches he featured in for the Rajasthan Royals.
He also scored his first hundred, also becoming the youngest batter to do so. This knock also made a record for the second-fastest century in the league's history, overtaking Yusuf Pathan, who did it for the same franchise previously. Samson admitted to the sheer calibre of his shot-making, leaving him in shock.
“I saw him hit one for a six. I was thinking that the little guy got lucky, but it kept on going. The quality of the shots also really shocked me,” shared Samson in a chat alongside Ashwin on Kutti Stories with Ash.
The video shared below is the moment Suryavanshi toppled multiple records to bring up his maiden IPL ton. Rajasthan Royals eventually cruised to an eight-wicket triumph while chasing 210 with 25 deliveries to spare. 101 of those runs were amassed by the 14-year-old left-handed batter.

What the hell, where did this kid come from, and he's 14 years old?: Ashwin
Speaking on the same topic, Ashwin recalled an incident from one of Chennai Super Kings' matches against RR where Suryavanshi out-thought Ashwin's tactical prowess to completely leave him baffled.
“It's not so much about his hitting. I bowled one ball from around the stumps. He hit that to the covers, and then I bowled it slow to see if he would go big. But he just waited for the ball and just screamed towards mid-on for a single. I was thinking, what the hell, where did this kid come from, and he's 14 years old. I made my debut 18 years ago in the IPL,” mentioned Ashwin.

Suryavanshi, who recently played for India U19 on their tour to England, looked in quite good nick in the 50-over games. His scores read 48, 45, 86, 143 and 33 in the five-match series. He will next be seen on the tour to Australia with the Under-19 squad, led by Ayush Mhatre.
