There was a bit of confusion and drama at the toss during Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders’s high-voltage Indian Premier League 2026 clash at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai, on March 29.

MI’s captain Hardik Pandya and KKR skipper Ajinkya Rahane joined Ravi Shastri for the toss ahead of the clash. Pandya won the toss, and elected to bowl first on expected lines. But, that was not the talking point of the moment, as the result of toss was not shown on the feed, a practice that has become regular in IPL.

The broadcasters straightaway showed a smiling Hardik Pandya and declared that MI had won the toss. With Mumbai Indians involved in the incident, the chatter has started on social media regarding this fumble by the official broadcasters.

The Indian Premier League (IPL) began showing the coin sides after the toss to enhance transparency and address controversies regarding fairness. The close-up zoom on the coin was implemented in IPL 2024. However, that is exactly what was missing during the toss in MI’s clash against KKR.

Meanwhile, KKR after being invited to bat first started off with a bang, with their openers, Ajinkya Rahane and Finn Allen putting on 69 run partnership for the first wicket. Allen scored a 17-ball 37, whereas Rahane put on a clinical show with his 40-ball 67-run knock. He hit five sixes in his innings, which is joint-most for him in a T20 innings.
