‘Just don't understand, why do they even ask?’ - Virender Sehwag on MS Dhoni being repeatedly asked about IPL retirement

"I just don't understand; why do they even ask? Even if it's his last year, why do you have to ask the player?" Sehwag added.

The 16th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 is well underway and fans only have one question on their minds: whether or not CSK skpper MS Dhoni will be playing after the ongoing edition of the IPL.

Many have been speculating about Dhoni's retirement from the cash-rich league after 2023. Notably, in Chennai’s last game against Lucknow Super Giants, former New Zealand cricketer Danny Morrison jokingly asked the 41-year-old if he was enjoying his last season, to which Dhoni cheekily responded that Morrison has decided to it be his last season, and not him.

Reflecting upon the same, former Indian batter Virender Sehwag has opened up on MS Dhoni being constantly nagged about the ossue. He opined that repeating the same question again does not make sense, and it would be completely Dhoni’s call.

"I just don't understand; why do they even ask? Even if it's his last year, why do you have to ask the player? It's his call; let him take that! Maybe he just wanted to get that answer out of Dhoni—that it was indeed his last season. Whether it's his last year or not, only MS Dhoni knows," Virender Sehwag told Cricbuzz.

LSG, CSK share points in Lucknow

The four-time champions took on Lucknow at the Ekana Sports City Stadium in the 45th game of the tournament. Coming in to bat first after losing the toss, the hosts put in a subpar performance with the bat. However, Ayush Badoni’s knock of 59* runs in 33 balls helped the side reach 125 when rain arrived.

Chennai did a good job of limiting their opponents to a low total as Moeen Ali, Maheesh Theekshana, and Matheesha Pathirana took two wickets each. However, the match was eventually called off due to persistent rain as both sides ended up sharing a point.
