After a poor run of form in recent games, KL Rahul finally showed glimpses of his class when he smashed 74 off 55 balls against Western Australia in India’s second warm-up match at Perth. With that, former India international Aakash Chopra is now confident that the vice-captain of the Indian team can eventually finish as India’s leading run-scorer in the upcoming T20 World Cup.

Chopra stated that the conditions in Australia will suit his playing style as Rahul is someone who can take the game deep. The 30-year-old likes bouncy tracks and pace and in Australia, he’ll get the same. Keeping these factors in mind, it will be a massive advantage for the cricketer going forward.

“KL Rahul could be the top run-scorer for India at the T20 World Cup 2022. He has an opportunity to bat all 20 overs, and he also has the game to bat till the end. These pitches will suit him a lot as the ball will come nicely onto the bat,” Chopra said on his YouTube channel.

In the two T20Is that the Men in Blue played against Western Australia, the openers seemed to struggle to play the new ball. Even though Rohit Sharma didn’t bat in the second match and Virat Kohli didn’t bat in either of the matches, this is one problem that the Indian team needs to address. After all, it is not a secret that the top order of the Indian team has suffered a lot against the new ball on quite a few occasions especially in ICC events.

I believe, Arshdeep Singh is going to bowl with the new ball: Aakash Chopra

With Jasprit Bumrah ruled out of the tournament because of a back injury, India’s chances of winning their second T20 World Cup is now under threat. Being the leader of the bowling line-up, Bumrah has delivered multiple match-winning performances for India in his career and thus, the player replacing him will have to deal with an enormous amount of pressure.

The 45-year-old picked Arshdeep Singh to take up the role and bowl the tough overs. He believes that the youngster will love the Australian conditions as the pitches there often provide pace and bounce.

“I believe it would be Arshdeep Singh. He is going to bowl with the new ball, and also in the death overs. It is also a possibility that he might be given the ball during the middle overs as well. He will like the pitches and the big grounds in Australia,” said the former cricketer.
