M. Chinnaswamy Stadium hosts its 100th IPL match in high-stakes RCB vs CSK clash

The M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru sets the stage for the clash between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and the five-time champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK). This match marks a historic moment, as the iconic venue holds its 100th match in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

This stadium holds a special place in IPL history as it hosted the inaugural match of the league in 2008. The opening encounter saw RCB take on the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), where the Kiwi batter Brendon McCullum carved his name into the record books with a score 158* off just 73 balls and registered the first century of the IPL. Unfortunately, the Royal Challengers ended in a crushing 140-run defeat. But the inaugural game laid the foundation for many unforgettable moments that happened at this venue.

M. Chinnaswamy Stadium has witnessed countless milestones, record-breaking performances, and edge of the seat thrillers over the 18 years of IPL. In today’s clash, CSK skipper MS Dhoni won the toss and elected to field first. RCB made a change in their playing XI by bringing in Lungi Ngidi in place of Josh Hazlewood.

In the earlier clash between the two teams in IPL 2025, RCB won the match by 50 runs with brilliant batting display from RCB skipper Rajat Patidar (51 off 32) and great bowling efforts from the RCB bowlers by restricting the CSK batters.

CSK have been eliminated from the 2025 IPL and will look to finish their campaign on a high and build momentum for next season. RCB are currently placed third on the points table with seven wins, and will aim to make this landmark match memorable by securing a crucial victory in front of their home crowd.
