Mohammed Shami's mother Anjum Ara was hospitalised hours before ODI World Cup final

Veteran India pacer Mohammed Shami's mother Anjum Ara was hospitalised before the high-octane ICC Men's Cricket World Cup final between India and Australia. The match was contested at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, on November 19, which saw Australia clinch the title for the sixth time.

Shami's mother could not attend the highly-anticipated clash on Sunday.  Ara, who is having some severe health issues, experienced dizziness on the morning of Sunday and was rushed to a hospital. Earlier, the pacer's entire family planned to attend the match but only his older brother, Haseeb, and his family travelled to Ahmedabad.
 
According to News 18, who had interacted with Ara recently spoke about her ongoing health struggles. However, she underwent a routine check-up on Sunday before being admitted to the hospital. Meanwhile, former India's domestic cricketer and Shami's younger brother, Mohammed Kaif was unaware of the situation.

Mohammed Shami's best figures in ODI World Cup 2023

Mohammed Shami has had an unforgettable campaign in the recently concluded ODI World Cup 2023. The 33-year-old has missed India's first four games in the tournament. However, he proved his worth after being included in the playing XI against New Zealand in India's fifth game at the HPCA Stadium, in Dharamsala, claiming a fifer and going on to win the Player of the Match.

The fast bowler then showcased another notable performance in the group stage clash against Sri Lanka at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. He finished with excellent figures of 5/18 during the match where the Men in Blue thrashed by 302 runs. Notably, he emerged as the Player of the Match in that game too. 

Shami's other noteworthy performance came against the Kiwis in the semifinal which was contested in Mumbai. Speaking of the game, India posted a total of 397 runs after deciding to bat first. The pacer then finished with career-best figures of 7/57, which earned him his third Player of the Match award in the tournament. The 33-year-old finished the tournament as the leading wicket-taker with 24 wickets from seven games.
