The newly built Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad has achieved a major milestone and got itself registered in the Guinness Book of World Records. The stadium in Gujarat has now become the stadium with the highest attendance of spectators ever recorded for a T20 game. It achieved the feat for hosting the Indian Premier League (IPL) final held in May this year.

The summit clash of the top-tier league played between the home side Gujarat Titans and Rajasthan Royals witnessed a massive attendance of 101,566 people. BCCI took to Twitter to post the stupendous achievement.

101,566 people witnessed the epic final: Jay Shah

Honorary secretary of the BCCI, Jay Shah shared his delight in the achievement as he let out the exact figures of the attendance of the summit clash of IPL 2022.

“Extremely delighted & proud to receive the Guinness World Record for the largest attendance at a T20 match when 101,566 people witnessed the epic @IPL final at @GCAMotera's magnificent Narendra Modi Stadium on 29 May 2022. A big thanks to our fans for making this possible! @BCCI,” tweeted Jay Shah.

The Narendra Modi Stadium in India is akin to Australia’s iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) in terms of its massive capacity. Interestingly, the two stadiums share the same designer- renowned Australian architect firm Populous with Larsen and Toubro (L&T) building the stadium.

Going a step ahead of the MCG, the stadium in Gujarat boasts of water drainage within 30 minutes once the rain stops. The addition of LED lights fixed along the perimeter of the roof which provides a 'shadow-less light' makes it the first of its kind in India.
