Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) - the governing cricketing council for the operations in the country has dismissed the rumours of a financial crisis situation within the organization on the operational front. The Sri Lankan board has completely falsified the misleading claims circulating across some news and social media outlets over the past couple of days or so.

Notably, the false claims surfaced across the channels as Sri Lanka prepares itself to co-host the upcoming Men's T20 World Cup in 2026 alongside its neighbouring nation India. The SLC has now come forward to address the baseless reports and has also confirmed that the financial operations within the organization are completely stable and sound enough to be preparing for the marquee T20I event.

“Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) wishes to clarify that recent claims circulating on social media suggesting a financial crisis within the organization are completely unfounded and misleading. We affirm that Sri Lanka Cricket possesses sufficient financial stability to manage its operations as well as to implement its long-term strategic initiatives,” an SLC media release dated Thursday, July 31 read.

“At present, SLC is actively and successfully engaged in preparations to co-host the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in 2026 alongside India, and to conduct 11 matches of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 scheduled for September this year. Such comprehensive planning and execution are only possible with sound financial backing,” the statement read further.

It further aims at the enhancement of the cricketing infrastructure in the country, even at the grassroots level. The Lankan body is further committed to opting for environment-friendly options like the installation of solar-powered devices and contribute to a sustainable future.
