The Indian team finished their batting innings on a high after Suryakumar Yadav deposited a massive six in the fine-leg region to take India's tally to 179/2 after 20 overs. Suryakumar, along with Virat Kohli, stitched a crucial 95-run stand in just 48 deliveries to provide the finishing touch to the Indian innings. Both batters hugged it out and had their arms in the air after the carnage at the death.

Rohit Sharma elected to bat first on a pitch that was used for the South Africa-Bangladesh clash earlier in the day. The Men in Blue had a sluggish start after KL Rahul departed cheaply for a second game running in the T20 World Cup. The hero of the epic clash against Pakistan, Virat Kohli, walked in to bat to a loud reception from a full house crowd at the SCG.

Kohli and Rohit consolidated for the team before the latter was dismissed for a scratchy half-century. That is when the onslaught began as Suryakumar Yadav came out all guns blazing. The mercurial batter scored a breathtaking half-century off just 25 deliveries and was greeted by a hug from his former skipper at the other end. Suryakumar's six on the final delivery brought a cheer from Kohli, and both batters had their arms aloft sharing a jolly moment after finishing the Indian innings in swashbuckling fashion.

Virat Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav rescue India after a stuttering start

Despite Kohli and Suryakumar's late onslaught, there will be some question marks raised about India's opening pair Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul, who struggled in the powerplay for a second successive game. The latter was dismissed for a sluggish 12-ball nine, and to further compound his misery, had Rahul reviewed the call, he would have overturned the umpire's decision.

However, the Indian skipper, despite his sluggish start, registered a brisk 53 off 39 deliveries before walking back to the hut in a bid to up the ante. His partnership with Kohli set the platform for India, which was accepted gleefully by Suryakumar Yadav.
