England have unveiled their playing XI for the opening group-stage match of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. Set to face Nepal in their first group game, on February 8 at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
At the top of the order, Phil Salt and Jos Buttler form a dynamic opening combination capable of putting opposition bowling attacks under immediate pressure. Salt’s aggressive powerplay approach complements Buttler’s ability to dictate tempo, while Buttler also takes on wicketkeeping duties, ensuring experience behind the stumps. The inclusion of Jacob Bethell and Tom Banton adds further firepower in the top and middle order.
Captain Harry Brook will play an important role the middle order, continuing his rise as one of England’s most influential T20 batters. Brook’s leadership role is supported by a strong all-round core featuring Sam Curran and Will Jacks, both of whom offer flexibility with bat and ball. Curran’s left-arm seam will provide balance to the attack, while Jacks’ off-spin and aggressive batting make him a valuable asset.
Liam Dawson and Adil Rashid lead the spin department, offering control through the middle overs. Rashid, in particular, remains central to England’s white-ball strategy due to his consistency.

The pace unit of Jofra Archer and Luke Wood adds genuine speed and left-right variation. Archer’s return continues to be closely monitored, but his presence immediately elevates England’s threat with the new ball and at the death.
Overall, England’s selected XI signals clear intent to start their T20 World Cup 2026 campaign aggressively while retaining tactical depth. Against a spirited Nepal side, England will look to impose their structure early and set the tone for the remainder of the tournament.
