Veteran Indian all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin has been fined 30 per cent of his match fee for showing dissent towards an umpiring decision during a recent Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) 2025 game between Dindigul Dragons and IDream Tiruppur Tamizhans on June 8 in Coimbatore.

According to TNPL officials, Ashwin was penalized 10 per cent for displaying dissent and an additional 20 per cent for misuse of equipment following his dismissal. A match referee hearing was conducted post-game, and the Dindigul Dragons captain accepted the sanctions without contest.

"There was a hearing conducted by the match referee after the game. Ashwin was fined 10 per cent for showing dissent towards the umpires and 20 per cent for misuse of equipment. He accepted the sanctions," a TNPL official told Cricbuzz.

The incident occurred during the fifth over of Dindigul’s innings after Ashwin, opening for the Dragons, attempted a sweep shot off Tiruppur captain R Sai Kishore. The ball hit his pads, and the on-field umpire, Kritika, ruled him out lbw. The 38-year-old, however, was unhappy with the decision, confident that the ball had pitched outside the line of the leg stump.

Unfortunately for the Dragons' skipper, no reviews were available, with both referrals already used earlier for wide-ball calls. Following the dismissal, Ashwin reacted by arguing with the umpire. As he made his way back to the pavilion, he hit his pads with the bat and later flung his gloves in anger.

The right-handed batter perished after adding 18 runs and triggered a batting collapse for the Dindigul Dragons. The side was eventually bundled out to 93 all out, losing their last nine wickets for just 54 runs. Tiruppur bowlers, Esakkimuthu A (4 wickets), M Mathivannan (3 wickets), and R Sai Kishore (2 wickets) picked wickets at regular intervals.
