Maheesh Theekshana produced one of the crucial wickets during Match No. 6 of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 against Ireland at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. Ireland captain Paul Stirling won the toss and elected to field first, as Sri Lanka posted a competitive total of 163/6 in their 20 overs.

The off-spinner made an immediate impact in his second over of the match. On the second ball of the fourth over, Theekshana dismissed Stirling with a superb delivery. The right-handed batter charged down the track in an attempt to attack and was beaten by a pinpoint yorker that crashed into the base of the middle stump, slipping under the bat to end a key innings early.

Theekshana bowled with excellent control and guile and celebrated the dismissal with his trademark archer-style celebration. Stirling managed just six runs off 13 balls during his brief stay at the crease in the second innings, dealing an early blow to Ireland’s chase.
