In a shocking development, it has come to notice that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has asked star Indian duo of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to step down from the One-Day Internationals (ODIs) even before the upcoming ICC ODI World Cup in 2027.
The All India Men's Senior Selection Committee has reportedly made its mind to go without the services of the star Indian duo, and they will have to think about their plans to continue to their international careers. Notably, both Rohit and Virat have already stepped away from T20Is and Tests in the last fourteen months. Earlier, they were likely to be seen at the World Cup, but the media development suggests otherwise.
According to Dainik Jagran, the Indian board is keen to onboard a few youngsters and test them before leading into the marquee quadrennial event, which will be held in Africa. As a result, the experienced players who are on the twilight of their careers, may eventually have to make a premature exit from playing any further for the Men in Blue.

Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli's international return delayed
The same report also suggests that if the senior pros are actually keen on representing the Indian outfit for the mega event in 2027, they might have to take part in the Vijay Hazare Trophy — India's premier domestic 50-over competition, to prove their dedication. Rohit represents Mumbai in the domestic arena, whereas Virat is a Delhi representative, and they may be seen playing in the domestic competition and hoping to perform well with the bat.
Speaking about their run of form with the bat during the previous edition, which took place in 2023, both were key additions to the Indian batting unit. Virat ended the tournament as the highest run-getter with 765 runs from 11 innings, whereas, Rohit was second on the list with 597 runs in as many outings. India, however, could not get over the line as Australia reigned supreme in the grand finale at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.
