Rajasthan Royals (RR) assistant coach Dishant Yagnik has said that the franchise focuses on developing young talents and turn them into star players. RR are out of contention for a playoff spot after their 100-run loss against Mumbai Indians (MI) on May 1 at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur.
The assistant coach admitted that the players who came into the camp were not star players but became one or are on the path of becoming one after they performed well in the IPL and transformed into star cricketers.
“There’s a great point in your question about star (players). Whenever a new player arrives, he is not a star, but he is made into one. Last year, the players we had were not stars when they entered the team, but they became stars, and now the players that we have in the team, we will make them stars," Yagnik said while speaking at the post-match press conference.
“We don’t buy superstars, we make superstars, and this is our tagline," he added.

Recently, the 14-year-old opener Vaibhav Suryavanshi smashed a 35-ball century against Gujarat Titans (GT) and became part of the record books. Yagnik acknowledged that the crowd was happy after the dazzling century and players like him eventually become stars. The coach emphasised that the franchise will look to bring in and develop the youngsters and not think about only big players.
“Look at Vaibhav Suryavanshi, everyone was happy for him when he was batting (against Gujarat Titans during his 37-ball 101). The entire crowd was happy and in time to come, these guys will become stars and we believe in that," Yagnik said.
RR will next take on the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Sunday, May 4 at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata at 3.30pm.
