England began their ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 campaign against Nepal on February 8, 2026, at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. They will be led by Harry Brook and will once again bank on the experience and firepower of Jos Buttler, Phil Salt, Jofra Archer, and Sam Curran.

England have lifted the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup trophy twice, in 2010 and 2022, and enter the tenth edition of the competition with a golden opportunity to create history. With 20 teams competing for the title, England will be targeting an unprecedented third T20 World Cup triumph. However, success at the Wankhede Stadium has not always come easily for the English side, and their record at the venue presents a mixed picture.

England have played six T20Is at the Wankhede Stadium, winning three of them. Their first appearance at the venue came in 2012 during their tour of India. In the second T20I of the series, England successfully chased down India’s total of 177/8 to secure a six-wicket victory, with Michael Lumb scoring 50 and Eoin Morgan remaining unbeaten on 49.

Their next outing at the Wankhede came during the T20 World Cup 2016, where they suffered a six-wicket defeat against West Indies. Despite posting a competitive total of 182/6, England were undone by a breathtaking unbeaten century from Chris Gayle, who guided the West Indies to victory.

Later in the same tournament, England were involved in one of the most memorable chases in T20 World Cup history at the venue. South Africa posted a mammoth 229/4, powered by half-centuries from Hashim Amla, Quinton de Kock, and Jean-Paul Duminy. England, however, pulled off a remarkable chase, largely thanks to Joe Root’s brilliant knock of 83.

England’s most recent appearance at the Wankhede prior to the ongoing tournament came against India in 2025, a match they would rather forget. India piled on 247/9, with Abhishek Sharma smashing a stunning 135, before bowling England out for just 97, despite Phil Salt’s valiant 55.

In the current T20 World Cup, England returned to the venue and edged past Nepal in a nail-biting encounter, clinching a four-run victory in a dramatic last-over finish but lost against West Indies.
