Andhra Pradesh cricketer Nitish Kumar Reddy made people notice his name with a sensational batting display that won a nail-biter for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the match against Punjab Kings (PBKS). The young all-rounder, who is playing just his fourth Indian Premier League (IPL) match, slammed 64 off 37 balls to get the team out of trouble in the first innings.
SRH are one of the strongest batting sides of the 2024 season, but they were in a spot of bother as wreckers-in-chief took their seats in the dugout early on. After being asked to bat first, they got off to a terrible start — losing three wickets inside the powerplay for the first time this season. While the likes of Aiden Markram and Heinrich Klaasen failed to take responsibility, a 20-year-old Nitish rose to the occasion and led his team to a respectable score.

Hyderabad were 64/4 in 9.4 overs, but thanks to Reddy’s maiden IPL fifty, the visitors posted a total in excess of 180. With two sixes and as many as fours, the right-hander smacked 22 runs off PBKS’ star spinner Harpreet Brar, who registered his most expensive figures in IPL (4-0-48-0). Later in the encounter, the Andhra all-rounder also claimed the big wicket of Jitesh Sharma in the second innings and was named Player of the Match for his all-round brilliance.
Who is Nitish Reddy, and what is his IPL salary?
Hailing from Visakhapatnam, Reddy earned recognition in domestic cricket by playing for his home state. He played seven Ranji Trophy matches and scored 366 runs. He has also amassed 566 runs with a high score of 159 in 17 first-class matches. Reddy’s 64 runs at an incredible strike rate of 172.97 against PBKS is his highest T20 score.

SRH's scouting team spotted a promising talent in Reddy, and the Hyderabad-based franchise acquired his services for a base price of INR 20 lakh ahead of the 2023 edition. Barring Abhishek Sharma, SRH's batting this time around is heavily dependent on their overseas players. However, Reddy's match-winning knock proved to be a huge plus for the franchise in its quest for a second IPL title.
