Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Ramiz Raza lauded the Babar Azam-led side after their heartbreaking loss against India in their first T20 World Cup 2022 fixture on Sunday (October 23). Pakistan posted a challenging total of 159/8 while batting first at the Melbourne Cricket Ground but star batter Virat Kohli guided India to a thrilling last-ball win by four wickets.

Pakistan players gave their everything to stretch the game till the end but failed to bag the win at the end. Ramiz, in his latest tweet, appreciated the team's effort against India and stated that cricket can be cruel and unfair sometimes.

"A classic! You win some you lose some and as we all know this game can be cruel and unfair. #TeamPakistan couldn’t have given more with bat and ball. Very proud of the effort!" Ramiz Raja wrote in his tweet.

Kohli continues to haunt Pakistan cricket

After forced to bat first, Pakistan lost their star opening duo of captain Babar Azam and the world no.1 T20I batter Mohammad Rizwan early. But Shan Masood and Iftikhar Ahmed's fifties helped Pakistan to put a respectable total of 159/8 at MCG in front of a capacity crowd.

Pakistani pacers started well with big wickets of Indian openers Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul in the powerplay overs. Haris Rauf dismissed in-from batter Suryakumar Yadav for just 15 runs to put Pakistan ahead in the game. But former India captain Virat Kohli played one of his best T20I knocks to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat.

Kohli scored unbeaten 82 runs off 53 balls while helping India score the improbable looking 48 runs in the last three overs. He smashed a big six on Mohammad Nawaz's delivery in the last over and two back-to-back sixes on Rauf's last two deliveries in the 19th over.
