South Africa clinched the match thanks to a brilliant century from youngster Dewald Brevis, levelling the three-match T20I series at Marrara Stadium in Darwin. Australian captain Mitchell Marsh won the toss and chose to bowl first, bringing Alex Carey and Sean Abbott into the playing XI for this clash. The Proteas also made two changes to their line-up.
South Africa opened with skipper Aiden Markram and Ryan Rickelton, putting together a solid start of 34 runs in the first three overs. However, Australian star Glenn Maxwell struck twice quickly, pulling the hosts back into the contest. Australia managed to take three wickets by the end of the powerplay.
The Johannesburg-born Dewald Brevis then joined Tristan Stubbs at the crease for the fourth wicket. The duo shared an impressive 126-run partnership off 57 balls before Stubbs was dismissed by Adam Zampa for 31. Meanwhile, the 22-year-old youngster continued to anchor the innings, guiding the visiting side comfortably through.

CSK lucky to get Dewald Brevis: AB de Villiers
Brevis became the third-youngest player to register a fifty-plus tally and recorded the second-fastest T20I century by a South African batter. The fourth wicket partnership marked the Proteas first-ever century stand against Australia in 11 years.
Brevis finished with an unbeaten 125 off 56 balls, featuring 12 fours and eight sixes, surpassing Ruturaj Gaikwad’s 123* to register the highest individual T20I score for South Africa. South Africa posted a total of 218, their highest-ever T20I score against Australia. For the host Australian side, star all-rounder Glenn Maxwell and Ben Dwarshuis took two wickets apiece.
When it came to chasing the 219-run target, the Mitchell Marsh-led side lost two quick wickets early in their chase. Skipper Marsh and Tim David then steadied the innings, with David scoring a rapid 50 off 24 balls and Marsh contributing 22 off 13. Despite their efforts, South Africa maintained control, restricting Australia’s run rate and preventing them from closing the gap.
Eventually, Australia were bowled out for 165, handing South Africa a 53-run victory. Kwena Maphaka and Corbin Bosch led the bowling effort with three wickets each. With this win, South Africa levelled the series 1-1. The third and final T20I will take place on Saturday, August 16, at the same venue.
