Thailand created history as they managed to script an unbelievable victory against Pakistan at the Sylhet Cricket Stadium on Thursday, October 6 in the ongoing Women's Asia Cup 2022. Pakistan always seemed like they were behind the eight ball and a brilliant batting effort from the Thailand side resulted in their memorable victory.

Earlier in the game, Pakistan opted to bat first after winning the toss and wicketkeeper-batter Muneeba Ali was dismissed early for just 15 runs. Skipper Bismah Maroof perished for just three runs and it was up to the in-form batter Sidra Ameen to take Pakistan to a decent score. Nida Dar provided good support for her from the other end while Ameen closed in on a hard-fought half-century.

Dar was dismissed after a 22-ball 12 while Ayesha Naseem followed her after hitting a six in her short-lived innings. Ameen reached another fifty and was removed after a 64-ball 56 when Pakistan desperately needed some quick runs to accelerate the scoring rate. Aliya Riyaz’s unbeaten ten took the Women in Green to a total of 116 for 5 in the 20 overs. Sornnarin Tippoch was the pick of the bowlers for Thailand with 2 for 20 in her four overs.

Natthakan Chantham steps up with the bat for Thailand

In reply, the Thailand side were quite determined in their approach and put on a 40-run partnership for the first wicket. Tuba Hassan picked up the first scalp for Pakistan in the ninth over and two balls later, she dismissed Chanida Sutthiruang for a duck. Skipper Naruemol Chaiwai joined Natthakan Chantham at the crease and the duo put together a crucial 42-run partnership for the third wicket.

While the bulk of the scoring was done by Chantham, Chaiwai was wise to get to the other end consistently. However, Pakistan got back into the game after Chaiwai was dismissed for 17 and the incoming batters could not make much of an impact after that. Chantham reached a fantastic half-century in the process, but she kept running out of partners. After a valiant effort, Chantham was dismissed for 61 off 51 balls in the 19th over.

However, she brought the required rate under control before her dismissal and Thailand needed ten off the last over to win the game. Rosenon Kanoh hit a priceless boundary and steered her side to victory with an unbeaten nine run-knock to win the game by four wickets and one ball to spare.
