Ravindra Jadeja has eclipsed the batting records set by VVS Laxman and Sunil Gavaskar with his 53-run knock on Day 3 of the ongoing five-match Test series between England and India. He reached the records at the Kennington Oval on Saturday, August 2.

Jadeja, who amassed 516 runs in 10 innings in the series, surpassed Laxman for the most runs scored by an Indian cricketer batting at number six or lower in a Test series. Laxman scored 474 during India's tour of West Indies in 2002.

Jadeja also bettered Gavaskar's record of five 50-plus scores during a Test series in England as the half-century at the Oval was his sixth in the series. Jadeja now stands as the joint-highest batter with six 50-plus scores in an overseas Test series batting at No. 6 or below alongside Gerry Alexander and Wasim Raja.

Speaking of the current series, Jadeja is one amongst three Indians to have got past the 500-run mark alonside skipper Shubman Gill (754 runs in 10 innings) and KL Rahul (532 runs in 10 innings).

Jadeja, one of India's saviours of the Lord's Test, was dismissed on 53 (77) by Josh Tongue. He was the eighth wicket to fall for India, who set a stiff target of 374 for England in the final innings of what has been a captivating series.

Neither of the spinners including Jadeja have not been brought on by Gill to bowl. It could be expected that he plays a bigger role with the ball in the time to follow as India aims on levelling the series.
