Skipper Rohit Sharma smashed his record fifth century while Rinku Singh scored an unbeaten 69 off just 39 with two fours and six sixes as Team India posted a mammoth total of 212/4 on the board eventually winning the thrilling third and final T20 international in a Double Super Over against Afghanistan at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore. The match ended up in a tie at the same score of 212 which forced the Super Over to come into play. With this victory, the Men in Blue have whitewashed the Afghans 3-0.

Speaking about how the dead rubber panned out, captain Rohit won the toss and elected to bat first. After bagging two ducks in the opening two encounters, Rohit finally looked at his usual best as he came out all guns blazing. Though the home side struggled at the start as they lost four wickets at the score of just 22. Yashasvi Jaiswal scored four while Virat Kohli bagged a golden duck, the first of his career in 109 innings.

Shivam Dube, who struck half-centuries in the first two matches, managed to score only one off six while Sanju Samson also got dismissed for a golden duck. The innings were all about Rohit and Rinku then as the duo stitched a record 190* partnership for the fifth wicket. The former remained unbeaten on 121 off just 69 which included 11 fours and eight maximums.

In reply, the visitors started well as openers Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran added 93 runs for the wicket first. The former struck 50 off just 32 while captain Zadran got dismissed for 50 off 41. Azmatullah Omarzai scored a golden duck while veteran Mohammad Nabi played a quickfire cameo of 34 off just 16 which included two fours and three maximums. Gulbadin Naib kept the tourists in the hunt for the target as he slammed an unbeaten 55 off just 23. Naib single-handedly took his side at leveling the score of 212 with his explosive and counter-attacking knock. The first Super Over got tied and the home side finally won the second Super Over to claim a famous victory.

Meanwhile, here are some of the important stats and numbers from the 3rd T20I between India and Afghanistan:

5 – Rohit Sharma has now smashed the most centuries (five) in T20Is. Glenn Maxwell and Suryakumar Yadav are joint second with four hundreds.

121* - Rohit scripted his highest T20 international score of 121*. His previous best of 118 came against Sri Lanka in the year 2017.

190* - Rohit and Rinku Singh scripted the highest partnership of 190* for the fifth wicket or below in the shortest international format. They went past Dipendra Airee and Kushal Malla, the duo added 145 runs for Nepal against Hong Kong in 2023.

1648 – Rohit has now slammed the most runs (1648) by an Indian captain in T20I format. He went past Virat Kohli’s tally of 1570 runs.

35 – Kohli has now registered the most ducks (35) for India among positions between one to seven in international cricket. He went past Sachin Tendulkar’s tally of 34.

101 – Mohammad Nabi reached the landmark of 100 maximums in T20 internationals.

21 – Gulbadin Naib slammed the joint-fastest half-century for Afghanistan in 21 deliveries. Nabi also hit in 21 balls against Ireland in 2017.

1/55 – Avesh Khan recorded his most expensive spell of 1/55. Previously, he gave away 53 runs for one wicket against Hong Kong in 2022.

36 – Rohit and Rinku have smashed the joint-most runs (36) in an over in a T20 international. Yuvraj Singh off Stuart Broad against England in 2007 and Kieron Pollard off Akila Dananjaya against Sri Lanka in 2021 also hit as many runs in an over.

7 – India has played eight T20Is against Afghanistan and has emerged victorious on seven occasions. Afghanistan is still winless as the remaining game ended with no result.

212/4 – India registered their joint-highest score of 212/4 against the Afghans in this format. They posted the same total of 212/2 in Dubai (DSC) in 2022.

190* - Rohit and Rinku recorded the highest partnership of 190* for any wicket for India. They surpassed Sanju Samson and Deepak Hooda’s stand of 176 against Ireland in Dublin in 2022.

90 – Rohit has now hammered the most sixes (90) by a captain in T20I cricket. He surpassed Eoin Morgan’s tally of 86 maximums.

109 – For the first time in his 109 T20I innings, Kohli got dismissed for a golden duck.

22/4 – India recorded their joint-lowest score of 22 at the fall of the fourth wicket in a T20 international match. The Asian giants also scored 22 against Australia in Melbourne in 2008.

5 – Kohli has now joint-second most ducks (five) with KL Rahul for India in T20 internationals. Rohit Sharma tops the list with 12.

116 – Kohli has managed to score only 116 runs in six innings at an average of 23.20 with one half-century in T20Is in Bangalore.
