A Rohit Sharma century after 12 years in the IPL, vintage sixes by MS Dhoni and some excellent death over bowling by Matheesha Pathirana, Match no. 29 Mumbai Indians vs Chennai Super Kings at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai had it all. CSK finally managed to win an away game after losses to DC and SRH, while MI ended their sequence of four consecutive home matches with two wins and losses.

MI sent CSK in to bat and made some early inroads as Ajinkya Rahane departed early. CSK tried stabilising their batting and were largely successful due to captain Ruturaj Gaikwad (66 off 40), who demoted himself to No. 3, and Shivam Dube (66* off 38) did well to shift the momentum to CSK's side, but it was a final over burst by former skipper MS Dhoni (20* off 4) that pushed CSK to 206/4.

MI started well at the top racing to 70 runs in seven overs before losing Ishan Kishan in the eighth over. From there MI looked like they were winning the match but a valiant effort by former skipper Rohit Sharma (105* off 63) made the innings gain some respectability as MI only managed 186/6. Matheesha Pathirana (4 for 28) played a crucial role in derailing MI in the middle overs.
