Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals were the two teams who clashed in the final game of the inaugural IPL season in 2008. The RR team defeated CSK in that game by winning the match on the final ball in a nail-biting finish. Rajasthan had earlier defeated Chennai in both league matches that season.

The CSK team did pretty well in the following seasons, while the performance of the RR team has been on a downfall since then. In the UAE leg of  IPL 2021, CSK and RR will play against each other at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Saturday (October 1).

Head to Head record:

In IPL history so far, both teams have clashed in 24 games of which 15 matches have been won by Chennai Super Kings, while Rajasthan Royals have won 9 games. CSK thrashed RR by 44 runs when these two sides met earlier in the competition.

Among the current team players, Suresh Raina has scored the most runs (656) in the matches played between both teams. He is followed by MS Dhoni (498), Jos Buttler (265), and Dwayne Bravo (214). In the overall record, Shane Watson is at the top spot but he played for both sides during different phases of his IPL career. In the bowling record, Ravindra Jadeja has picked up the most wickets (17) followed by Dwayne Bravo (15) and Deepak Chahar (9).

Last season results

As previously mentioned, MS Dhoni’s men got the better of CSK when these two sides met earlier in the competition. The encounter took place at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai and RR elected to bowl. CSK embraced the challenge as boundaries were smashed all over the park. As a result, the three-time champions posted 188/9 in their allotted 20 overs. Interestingly, none of the CSK batters played a stand-out knock as Faf du Plessis (33) scored the most. However, contributions came from most of the batters.

Chasing the challenging total, the inaugural-season champions never really looked in the hunt. Although Jos Buttler made an impressive 49, others failed to deliver as RR could only post 143/9. This way CSK won the contest by 45 runs.
