The Indian team had a disappointing time last night on the field against the hosts England in the second ODI match of the three-match series. After a dominating performance in the first match at Trent Bridge, the visitors suffered a convincing defeat by 86 runs, due to an all-round show first by the English batters led by a magnificent century from Joe Root and then by their bowlers who finished the job successfully. However during the match, the Indian wicketkeeper-batsman MS Dhoni reached a massive milestone of completing 10,000 runs in ODI cricket.

Dhoni reached the landmark in his 320th ODI match and he became the 12th batsman in the world to achieve the tremendous feat. He also became the fourth Indian batsman to score 10,000 runs or more in the 50-over format, as former Indian cricketers Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid and Sourav Ganguly  have also done it in the past before him. However, of all the other 11 batters in the celebratory list, Dhoni is the only one who has batted at 5th or 6th position for most of the times in his ODI career.

In terms of the number of balls a player faced to pile up that many runs, he is the second fastest only behind Sanath Jayasuriya. After 320 One-Day Internationals, Dhoni has 10,004* runs in his career at an average of 51.3, his best score in 50-overs cricket is 183 that he scored against Sri Lanka in Jaipur back in 2005 when he was known for his swashbuckling style of batting. He has 10 hundreds to his name in the format along with 67 fifties and a career strike rate of 88.27

Former Australian vice-captain David Warner who is currently banned from international cricket due to his involvement in the ball-tampering scandal earlier this year in South Africa, also wished the former Indian skipper on reaching the feat. He applauded the superb effort of Dhoni by wishing him on Twitter.
