David Warner, the left-handed Australian opener etched his name in the history books. During his marathon knock-in Adelaide, he covered almost covered 21 kilometres with the bat in his hand on the first two days of the 2nd Test. However, during his fascinating innings, he shattered several records before Tim Paine declared at a score of 589 runs.
The 33-year-old played his career’s best knock and went unbeaten on 335* runs. He also surpassed the record of Sir Don Bradman’s record and grabbed the second spot on Australia’s all-time highest run-scorer in an innings. He turned out to be a nightmare for Pakistan bowlers, who tried their best to dismiss him on both the days but went unsuccessful in claiming his wicket.
David Warner gives credit of his success to his fitness
Warner took guards at 14:07 as per local timings on Friday and replicated his previous game form in Adelaide as well. He dominated visitors bowler and spent more than nine hours on the crease. It seemed like the Australian opener’s dedication to his fitness paid off as he played 127 overs during his marathon inning. Later on, Cricket Australia performance team revealed that he had covered 20.921 kilometres at Adelaide Oval.
However, after playing a record-breaking knock, Warner said that he is proud to have such a fitness because of which he managed to spend so much on the wicket. He also added that when he is away from cricket, either he will be on the treadmill or walking on the coastal. The 31-year-old feels that walking is good for health and he enjoys it.
“I pride myself on my fitness. Warner was quoted by cricket.com.au as saying on Saturday. If I’m away from the game and not in the nets, I’m either on the treadmill or running the coastal walk. My wife is always getting me out of the house and making sure I’m walking. I walk every day here before games. I just love being outdoors.
“We’ve got three young kids so we’re always going to be up early, but we make sure we make time for fitness and I really enjoy that. There’s a lot of hard work that has gone into it.” David Warner said on Saturday after playing a memorable knock as quoted by cricket.com.au.
