The former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly heaped praise on the Delhi Daredevils in his recent column in Times of India. Ganguly was also all praise for Virat Kohli, who is perhaps in the prime of his career.
Sourav Ganguly also cited the reason why the Royal Challengers Bangalore have been faltering despite having such an able leader in the form of Virat Kohli. Ganguly believes it is the lack of variation and depth in the bowling department that is causing problems for the RCB. He said that only if the RCB management figures out this issue, they will enhance their chances in the tournament.
The former Indian skipper commended the way Virat has been consistently batting well and also said that he has shown how someone can get a century in 20 overs with all proper cricketing shots. “He [Virat] has done it in the past and once again exemplified that even by playing traditional cricketing shots, one can score a hundred in just 20 overs,” quoted Ganguly.
Furthermore, the legendary Indian batsman tagged the Delhi Daredevils as the most improved team in this edition of the IPL. He was quick to cite the reason for their success. Daredevils, who are being mentored by Rahul Dravid, have the best combination of youth and experience, feels Ganguly.
“Their policy of investing in youth and low-budget players is allowing them the freedom to play. But the biggest challenge for them will be whether their young batting line-up can stand up to the pressure of the entire IPL,” quoted Ganguly.
Speaking about the Kolkata Knight Riders, the southpaw was content with their performance and called them the best side in the tournament. Though he was concerned about the fact that barring Sunil Narine, all other spinners can be put under pressure.
“Kolkata still continue to be the best team in the tournament so far. Their tried and tested formula of spin continues to work. Though I feel, that other than Sunil Narine, the rest of the spinners can be put under pressure. But it is the balance of that side which is the highlight. The batting depth, in spite of Uthappa and Gambhir’s failure in the last match, saw them through and it showed that a set team will get you results,” he said.
