Former India skipper Virat Kohli had the last laugh against the England batter Jonny Bairstow. To note, both stalwarts were involved in a heated conversation earlier in the day as Bairstow completely bashed the visitors’ bowling line-up after he exchanged words with Kohli.
The right-handed batter was scalped by Mohammed Shami after completing his excellent hundred. Coincidentally, it was the 33-year-old who grabbed his catch stationed at the first slip. The run-machine from India also gave a flying kiss to the dismissed batter as the Indians celebrated the downfall of in-form Jonny Bairstow.
Jonny Bairstow scored 106 runs off 140 balls before being scalped by Shami
Bairstow jailed his team out of the tricky situation after the Three Lions lost half of their side before crossing the 100-run mark. Talking more about the conversation between Kohli and Bairstow, both players exchanged words after the first ball of the 32nd over, which was bowled by speedster Mohammed Shami. “Shut up. Just stand and bat,” Kohli was heard saying in a video making rounds on social media platforms.
Meanwhile, the former Indian skipper was seen putting his hands on the shoulders of Bairstow and having a friendly conversation with the English batter when players of both teams were heading back to the dressing room during a forced rain break yesterday.
“Don’t know, don’t know what happened there. There is something between Bairstow and Kohli. Bairstow said something, Kohli’s gone back. It’s tense out there”, said Nasser Hussain from the commentary box. Later, Kohli was seen speaking to Stokes before giving a friendly punch on Bairstow’s shoulder to ease things out.
Meanwhile, the visitors have gained a healthy lead of 132 runs after the first innings. Bairstow was the only English batter who looked comfortable against the Indian bowling line-up as the Three Lions got out after scoring just 284 runs in their first innings. Pacer Mohammed Siraj was the pick of bowlers for visitors as he scalped four wickets for his side.
