For Indian left-handed opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan, the United Kingdom tour got off to somewhat of an impressive start when he, along with his partner-in-crime Rohit Sharma went about whacking the Ireland bowlers all around the park in Dublin. It seemed, at the time, at least, that he could put no foot wrong when it came to plying his trade when it came to playing the big dogs England in the subsequent series.

However, things certainy did not go as expected when Dhawan simply could not make it count in the T20I series against the Brits. With 19 runs in three innings, the fact that the Indians won 2-1 was something that went rather unnoticed. However, for former skipper and opener Sunil Gavaskar, Dhawan’s form certainly did not go unnoticed, to say the least. In his column, Gavaskar wrote that Dhawan may re-find his form when it came to the 50-overs format.

“In batting, the only concern is Shikhar Dhawan who didn’t score many in the T20 series but he relishes the 50 over format,” wrote Sunil Gavaskar in his column for TOI.

30 overs extra makes a huge difference reckons Sunil Gavaskar

Speaking ahead of India’s first ODI against the Brits, gavaskar opined that the additional 30 overs made a massive difference when it came to a contrast with the T20 format that the Indians have been playing quite a bit of in recent times.

“Now that the T20 series has been done with and both teams have flexed their muscles and showed a glimpse of what to expect, comes the ODI series. The extra 30 overs makes a big difference for there is time for recovery for both the batting and bowling teams even from tough situations,” he wrote.
