Mumbai batsman Shreyas Iyer made his debut for India back in November 2017 in a T20I against New Zealand, but he hasn’t been able to stay put in his position in the Indian team. He was lately a part of the T20I team that played a three-match series against Australia but didn’t get to play a single match. He also couldn’t break into the playing eleven in the three-match home series against Windies.

To add insult to injury, the 24-year-old didn’t find a place in any of the squads for India’s ongoing venture Down Under that also includes the tour of New Zealand. The frequent rejections seem to have gotten to his head and recently, the right-handed Mumbai batsman didn’t mince any words saying that he doesn’t care anymore about his India selection and has turned out to be ‘emotionless’.

It’s better to enjoy life

“I am emotionless now. I don’t feel anything from the inside these days. Koi feeling hi nahi aa raha hai. For me somehow it (fussing about Indian call) isn’t important. Someone comes and says, I am in team, I am not in team, kuch farak nahi padhta (it doesn’t matter much),” Iyer was quoted as saying by Indian Express on Friday.

“I have stopped thinking too much. It all started against West Indies. I told myself that I want to enjoy my life, mazaa karna hai. I don’t want selection issues to rule my happiness. Otherwise I would get frustrated and thinking about the future will ruin my present also. It’s better to enjoy life – selection is a temporary thing,” he added.

In an international career, which has spanned over a year, Iyer has played six ODIs and as many T20Is in which he has notched 210 and 83 runs. He has a couple of half-centuries in ODIs, both of which came against Sri Lanka in Mohali and Visakhapatnam respectively in 2017. He is currently plying his trade in the 2018-19 edition of the Ranji Trophy.
