India’s rivalry against Australia in the limited-overs series has been a keenly contested one so far. After India had drawn the T20I series and won the Test and ODI series down under, Australia arrived in India for a reciprocal tour to play two T20Is and five ODIs.

The official broadcasters of the international matches in India, Star Sports fanned the rivalry further by releasing a TV commercial featuring Virender Sehwag taking a jibe at the Australian team using Rishabh Pant and Tim Paine’s ‘babysitter’ banter, terming the Australian team’s players as babies.

Matthew Hayden, former Australia opener was not far behind, as he appeared in a second TV ad warning Sehwag that India shouldn’t take Australia for babies, and the team proved it, as they whitewashed India in the two-match T20I series, winning both matches in Vizag and Bengaluru respectively.

Now with the five-match ODI series currently underway, the rivalry got a new look, as Team India debuted a new kit on the eve of the first ODI in Hyderabad. BCCI has had a tradition of unveiling new kits every World Cup year a month before the start of the mega event. This time, too a newly designed kit by Nike was launched with MS Dhoni, Ajinkya Rahane, Virat Kohli, Prithvi Shaw, Jemimah Rodrigues, and Harmanpreet Kaur attending the event.

The global sports apparel giants did not make many changes to the kit, keeping the colours of the kit blue, given the team’s moniker being the Men in Blue. Consequently, the team’s primary colour is blue, with the names of the players and the ‘INDIA’ written in orange colour and the logo of sponsors OPPO in white just above the team name.

Gambhir warns Hayden of the new look Team India

When the Indian team debuted the new design kit in the first ODI against Australia in Hyderabad, former India opener Gautam Gambhir decided to take a jibe at Matthew Hayden, as the opener had warned Sehwag in the commercial about Australian team.

Gambhir tweeted, “Uncle Haydos watch out, the Indian ‘baby’ is now in new ODI diapers. Save some milk powder for babies in green n gold”
