Aaron Finch made his international debut back in 2011 and has ever since been an integral member of the Australian limited-overs team. The Victoria-born batsman has played 93 ODIs and 42 T20Is in which he has racked up 3361 and 1596 runs respectively. Moreover, he has 13 tons in national colours. However, despite his impressive performances, he strained to stake his claim in the Test team.

After waiting seven years since his foray into Australian cricket, he got his maiden Test call-up in Australia’s series against Pakistan in the UAE, starting next month. Tim Paine and Co are scheduled to play a couple of matches in Dubai and Abu Dhabi respectively. David Warner’s suspension back in March has meant that a massive void has been created in the opening slot of the batting lineup.

Five new players in the team

The Men in Yellow are yet to win a single match since the infamous ball-tampering scandal in Cape Town and they will be desperate to cease their horrendous run of form. Apart from Finch, four players- Brendan Doggett, Marnus Labuschagne, Travis Head and Michael Neser- are yet to make their debut in Test cricket. In the meantime, Glenn Maxwell expressed his happiness for Finch.

Maxwell, the Australian all-rounder, hasn’t had the best of times playing the longest format. He made his Test debut back in 2013 against India but has only been able to play seven matches in which he has managed only 339 runs at an abysmal average of 26.07. His last appearance in whites was against Bangladesh in 2017 at Zohur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong.

Meanwhile, expressing his delight for Finch, the 29-year-old wrote, “So incredibly happy and proud for my good mate @AaronFinch5’s call up to the test squad! Has been sensational this year and thoroughly deserves his opportunity! #woofwoof #testdogga.”
