Friendships in sport go on for a long time. And, when you have seen each other grow together and become absolute greats in the sport you play, the bond strengthens even more. Such is the case with Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly. Both have retired from the sport for many years now, but they don’t miss even a single opportunity to celebrate the bond they have.

When playing for the Indian team, Sourav and Sachin used to open the batting together for many years. Each time the two set foot on the field, the connection between them was a sight to behold. Their communication with each other was used as an example by many and the way they used to coordinate and decide the flow of runs was simply amazing.

Sourav Ganguly recently took it to Instagram to share his pictures with Tendulkar, bringing back the times they’ve had on the field recently. He shared a picture with him and Tendulkar from the first day-night Test and captioned it ‘Great memories with this partnership…’. And, the second one was also from the same match, with the two sharing a light moment and this picture had the caption ‘#friendship’.

Ganguly and Tendulkar hold the record for highest opening partnership for India

Every Indian cricket fan till date remembers the two walking in to bat and winning matches for the team, scoring mountains of runs. In the 176 One Day International innings they played together, they amassed 8227 runs, which are one of the best numbers in the opening positions.

The duo holds the record of having had the highest opening partnership for India. In a match against Kenya, at the Boland Park on the 24th of October in 2001, they stitched together a 258 run stand, which still has not been surpassed.

Seeing the people who were celebrated during their playing days, still having a great time brings great joy to people and especially the fans, who still get a sneak peek into their lives. It is things like these that binds generations of cricket fans together and helps them get even closer as a community.
