Two of the strongest teams this season, Gujarat Titans and Sunrisers Hyderabad will lock horns in Match 40 of the competition. Both sides have been on a winning spree and it would be interesting to see which side’s streak ends in this contest. With six wins in seven outings, Hardik Pandya’s GT is atop the team standings and is just a couple of wins away from officially securing a place in the playoffs.

As far as SRH are concerned, after losing their first couple of games, Kane Williamson’s men have won five on a trot and are occupying the second position. As their net run rate is way better than that of GT, a win here will see them going at the pinnacle. Hence, stakes are pretty high in this game and both sides have all the reasons to put their best foot forward. Notably, GT suffered an eight-wicket defeat when these two sides met earlier this season.

Meanwhile, GT isn’t the strongest team on the paper and many loopholes on the side have been exposed as well. However, they somehow know, how to recover at the right time and cross the line. Bowling has been their biggest strength this season with the likes of Rashid Khan, Mohammed Shami, and Lockie Ferguson being phenomenal with the ball in hand.

As far as the batting department is concerned, Hardik Pandya and David Miller have been among the runs while Rahul Tewatia and rising sensation Abhinav Manohar have been successful in providing the late impetus. However, they must solve their top-order woes soon as we are in the business end of the competition.

Speaking of SRH, they haven’t lost more than three wickets in any of their last five games. The same shows how well their top-order has performed. While openers Kane Williamson and Abhishek Sharma have blown hot and cold, Rahul Tripathi, Aiden Markram, and Nicholas Pooran have scored heavy runs in the middle order. Hence, it would be interesting to see how they’ll tackle the GT bowlers.

There aren’t many issues in the bowling department either. SRH has operated with a four-man pace attack comprising Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Marco Jansen, Umran Malik, and T Natarajan. As all these fast bowlers bring different things to the table, batters have endured a hard time against SRH.

Pitch and conditions

The track at the Wankhede Stadium has been batting-friendly and thus the willow wielders will be benefitted a lot. Not too long ago, RR posted 222/2 in a game against DC at this venue, the highest total of the IPL 2022 so far. As dew always tends to play a part in this ground, the toss-winning captain will elect to bowl first.

Gujarat Titans

GT isn’t expected to make any changes in their line-up as this combination has been working for them. Having said that, Wriddhiman Saha and Shubman Gill must find their mojo back soon, as they have been short of runs lately.

As Shashank Singh is yet to bat this season and hasn’t got a chance to prove his abilities, Abdul Samad will continue warming the benches.
