Dom Bess, England off-spinner made his Test debut against Pakistan in 2018. He recalled an instance from his debut match when Men in Green batsmen attempted to take the charge against him. Also, the off-spinner revealed that he was happy that Babar Azam got retired hurt in that particular game.

Dom Bess earned his maiden call-up as a replacement for Jack Leach. He was designated to lead the spin bowling department of the side. However, he didn’t get off to a great start to his international cricket and went wicketless in both the innings of the game. So, far he has donned national jersey in 4 Tests in which he has grabbed 11 wickets with one five-wicket haul.

Dom Bess reveals why he was happy after Babar Azam got retired hurt in Lord’s Test

In a podcast, Dom Bess said that he played alongside Azhar Ali for Somerset and after the conclusion of the game he told that the batsmen were trying to take charge against him. The 22-year-old added that he was happy after Babar Azam got injured off Ben Stokes in the match.

Actually, in that game, the 25-year-old top-order Pakistani batsman Babar was hit on his arm with a brilliant short-pitched delivery by England all-rounder. He got retired hurt on his individual score of 68 runs and never came out to bat again in the first innings. The off-spinner recited that he saw Babar Azam smacking each and every bowler the previous year. So, if he was on the crease then he might have gone for 150 runs in that game.

“We had Azhar Ali at Somerset. He spoke to me after my Test debut and said that they were trying to go after me. I was quite happy when it [Babar’s injury] happened because after seeing him in Taunton last year, he was whacking everyone, so I would have probably gone for 150 [runs] I reckon,” said Bess in Sky Sports podcast.

Coming to that match, Pakistan managed to register an emphatic win against England by nine wickets. And, Mohammad Abbas was awarded the Man of the Match for taking 8 wickets in the game. It was a historic victory for Men in Green as they marked it at the ‘Mecca of Cricket’.
