Before the first ODI between India and Windies, not may Indian fans may have heard of Shimron Hetmyer. The young West Indian sensation took everyone by storm with his breathtaking innings at Guwahati. Scoring 106 runs from just 78 balls, Hetmyer took the Indian bowlers to the cleaners. His efforts helped the Windies post a total of 322/8 on the board.
The 21-year-old was the West Indian skipper in their victorious campaign during the U19 World Cup 2016. After his scintillating knock, a lot of praises were showered on him. Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh also joined the chorus in applauding Hetmyer’s century.
Bhajji predicts the future
The Indian off-spinner went on to state that Shimron Hetmyer is likely to be the next million dollar baby in the IPL. If the reports are to be believed, the IPL auction for the next season is scheduled to take place on December 16. After his fascinating innings where he hit six sixes and the same number of boundaries, the prospect of him being picked in the auctions and fetching a good purse have probably doubled up.
Here’s what Harbhajan Singh tweeted, “What an inn by #Hetmyer..he is gonna be a next million dollar baby in the @IPL 2019 #INDvsWI 1st ODI.”

Hetmyer continues to rise
Shimron Hetmyer posted his third One Day International century, all coming this year. His first ton came against UAE during the World Cup Qualifiers where he and Chris Gayle both slammed centuries. The latest came during the recent series against Bangladesh where he smashed 125 off just 93 deliveries.
The best thing about all these centuries is the fact that all came in quick duration. His strike rate of 102 is the testament to the fact that he plays with an attacking instinct from the word go. While the youngster failed to get going in the Tests, he surely looks a dangerous batsman in the limited-overs format. The Indian bowling lineup will be wary of him in the upcoming games now.
