Former Indian skipper MS Dhoni is revered as one of the leading cricketers of his generation and his stats serve as a testament. Dhoni, without a shadow of a doubt, is the best finisher that the limited overs game has ever seen. Blessed with a range of strokes and a calm temperament, the gloveman keeps the ability to single-handedly steer a match away from any precarious situation. Not just his batting skills, Dhoni is lightning fast behind the stumps as well.

Dhoni’s contribution to the Indian team set-up has been imperative. Though not skipper anymore, the 36-year-old could be seen at times guiding his colleague and protege Virat Kohli, if and when needed. During the ongoing tour of South Africa, Dhoni also reached the milestone number of 400 dismissals in the ODI format of the game.

Lauding his heroics, ex-India captain Sourav Ganguly feels that Dhoni’s contribution can’t go unnoticed. Speaking on the sidelines of a walkathon, organized by All India Ophthalmology Conference at Coimbatore, Ganguly opined Dhoni has been extremely clinical in the limited overs and judging by his current form, it’s tough for any other gloveman to overtake him.

Referring to World Cup winning skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Ganguly said “Dhoni is very good in one-day matches and in T-20. It is very hard to get past MS.” He said Dhoni’s contributions should be respected.

“You got to respect the contributions made by him and others too will get an opportunity to shine.”

Dhoni leads the numbers game

MS Dhoni leads the race of wicketkeepers with most dismissals in T20Is. Dhoni has effected 78 dismissals to his name in 88 innings thus far which includes 49 catches and 29 stumpings. The next best gloveman going by stats is Pakistan’s Kamran Akmal with 60 dismissals under his belt.

Dhoni’s current tally of 49 catches is the highest among wicketkeepers. However, when it comes to stumpings, he is second to Akmal who has  32 stumpings.
