Arjun Tendulkar has recently been selected in the Indian U-19 squad for their tour of Sri Lanka in July/August. The team will play a couple of four-day matches followed by five one-day fixtures. The limelight will be on Arjun regarding how he steps up to the plate. Expectations will be high from the 18-year old cricketer as he is the son of the legendary Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar.

The star status has ensured that he stays in the limelight. He bowls left-arm fast and has been in the news on quite a few occasions. Last year, the 18-year old bowler churned out a searing Yorker, which smacked English batsman Johnny Bairstow on the foot, after which the batter limped off the field. Arjun was also slated to take part in the Mumbai T20 league, the brand ambassador of which was his father.

Arjun’s tough test ahead

However, he pulled out of the tournament in order to refurbish his skills. The upcoming Sri Lanka tour is a massive opportunity for the pugnacious potential to showcase his prowess and stake his claim in the Mumbai domestic team. Nevertheless, he won’t have Rahul Dravid as his coach as the former Indian batsman is with the India A team for their tour of England, which starts this month.

WV Raman and Narendra Hirwani., who are the present coaches of the National Cricket Academy (NCA), will be in the duty of the U-19 team. Meanwhile, Harsha Bhogle has urged the supporters to see Arjun from a sole cricketer’s perspective and not from any other viewpoint. The sports presenter took to Twitter and delivered his message. He wrote

“It is not “Sachin’s son” who is picked for India U19. It is Arjun Tendulkar, a player in his own right and we must respect that.”
