On Monday, Yuvraj Singh, the legendary Indian all-rounder, decided to call it quits from international cricket. He called for a press conference in which made the announcement of his retirement. The all-rounder’s career for the Indian team started way back in 2000 against Kenya and it potentially came to an end after India’s tour of the West Indies in 2017 following the Champions Trophy 2017.

He was the Player of the Tournament in the 2011 edition of the World Cup in the Indian sub-continent. Yuvraj still holds the record for the fastest T20I half-century maker off 12 balls and he accomplished the feat versus England in 2007. During the media interaction, the Chandigarh-born player expressed his gratitude towards the sport, saying that ‘cricket has given him everything that he has.’

He has my full support on the retirement decision: Hazel Keech

After he bid adieu, the cricketing fraternity wished him on the glorious career. His family also talked about Yuvraj’s journey, feeling proud. Shabnam Singh, his mother, said that it was her son’s decision to retire and he has done his country proud. Hazel Keech, whom Yuvraj has been married to back in November 2016, also talked about an incident when Yuvraj became emotional.

Keech said that before marriage, she didn’t have much understanding about the sport. The 32-year-old Keech, who’s also a British-Mauritian model and has appeared in Bollywood movies, mentioned that she once saw her husband in tears after he received his cricketing kit back in 2014.

“As a wife, it is not my place to tell him what to do. He has my full support on the retirement decision. I did not watch cricket before meeting Yuvi. When Yuvi’s cricketing kit arrived in 2014, I saw him crying. I didn’t understand the emotion at that point. I guess only cricketers can understand how it is to get picked for the national team,” Keech was quoted as saying in India Today.

It’s a known fact that Yuvraj was a fulcrum of the Indian side in the ODI and T20I format when he was at his peak. In his international career, Yuvraj donned the national colors in 40 Tests, 304 ODIs and 58 T20Is in which he scored over 11,000 runs. He was no mug with the ball, having picked 148 wickets for India.
